SHOULD I BUY, BORROW OR RENT A WEDDING DRESS?
Good question. There are advantages and disadvantages to all three choices. Your wedding day is an important occasion, one both romantic and sentimental, and yet one full of expenses. Beyond the wedding dress, there is also the reception to consider, the bridal dresses, and the catering and wedding cakes...the list goes on and on. So in order to help you make your choice, let's consider one option at a time.Buying A Wedding Dress Advantages include obviously a flawless, custom-fitting piece that's all but guaranteed to make your wedding guests' jaws collectively drop. Disadvantages are mainly the price. Brand new wedding dresses can cost well over a thousand dollars. While shopping online or at a thrift store can save you money, the dresses will be of lower quality or even partially damaged. Renting A Wedding Dress Renting a dress is another option, certainly an affordable one compared to buying a new dress. You can rent a wedding dress, take plenty of pictures and let the moment of luxury live on forever. The disadvantages include obviously having to part with such a sentimental item, and the need to be extra careful with the dress. You must make sure the dress is not damaged or dirtied; otherwise you might have to buy the whole dress or at least pay a hefty penalty fee. Borrowing A Wedding Dress What's the harm in asking a friend or family member if you can borrow their wedding dress for a special occasion? Everyone knows you're not exactly JK Rowling, so there's no need to go into debt just to buy a brand new wedding dress you'll use for one special day. In fact, unless you're really disliked (which is a problem in many respects) then most likely a friend or family member will be happy and downright touched to pass on the family heirloom for a special occasion. When planning your wedding remember to buy what you absolutely need-as in something that will be used regularly-and to rent everything that's forgotten in less than a day. Spend wisely and according to what you can afford to lose, not as if your wedding is a costly investment. If you have more money than you know what to do with then spend the rest of the money on the honeymoon. Saving money where possible is always a good idea. |
